Mee-Hyea Kim is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in relationship conflicts, life transitions, issues with poor self esteem, anger, impulsivity, and trauma. She is focused on treating mood disorders and anxiety and has worked with children, adults, and couples from all religions, cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Mee-Hyea’s therapeutic approach integrates a psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral approach which is tailored to each person’s unique needs. Her goal is to collaborate with you to create a therapeutic relationship that provides a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment which allows for exploration of all emotional experiences, thoughts and feelings. She will listen to your story, help you navigate through past traumas and experiences, get to the root of symptoms and guide you through the process of breaking free from destructive and repetitive patterns. Mee-Hyea believes that by overcoming unhealthy defense mechanisms, teaching mindfulness techniques, healthy coping skills, building increased insight and awareness into these patterns leads to emotional growth, emotional wellbeing and mental resilience.

Mee-Hyea is trained in Modern Psychoanalysis, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), holds a certification as a mental health screener and has extensive experience in crisis intervention as part of the Bergen County Psychiatric Screening Program, where she gained knowledge in psychological assessment, diagnosis and treatment. For the past 15 years, Mee-Hyea has experience working in various clinical settings including in residential treatment centers, group homes, partial care programs, and psychiatric hospitals.

Mee-Hyea earned her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from Clark University and her Master’s Degree in Psychoanalytic Counseling from Centenary College / Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis.
