  • ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) helps you clarify what you actually value and take action toward it, rather than organizing your life around avoiding discomfort.
  • EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy) works on attachment and emotional patterns, and is often used where relationships are central to what you are working on.
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, paced trauma-processing therapy that can reduce the emotional intensity of difficult memories.

What to Expect: From First Contact to Your First Sessions

Starting therapy is easier when you know the sequence. Here is how it works.

  1. Reach Out: Submit the form on our contact page or call us to request a free 15-minute consultation. You do not need to explain everything up front.
  2. Talk Through Fit: We ask what brought you in, what you have tried, and what you are hoping for. This conversation is what our matching process is built on.
  3. Get Matched: Our founders review your intake and pair you with a clinician whose training, specialty, and style suit your goals. If psychiatry or evaluation may also be useful, we coordinate that internally.
  4. Complete Intake Paperwork: You will receive secure forms before your first appointment. Bringing a list of any current medications and relevant prior records helps your clinician move faster.
  5. Attend Your Clinical Assessment: Your first appointment is a fuller conversation about history, current symptoms, and any safety concerns, and it ends with an initial direction for treatment.
  6. Begin Focused Work: Early sessions concentrate on building trust, steadying whatever is most disruptive, and setting goals you can actually measure.
  7. Review and Adjust: You and your clinician revisit whether the work is helping. If the match is not right, telling us is not awkward and changing clinicians is straightforward.

Rates, Insurance, and Out-of-Network Care

Lukin Center for Psychotherapy is an out-of-network mental health provider. We do not bill insurance directly, and we are not in network with any carrier. Instead, we provide the documentation you need to file an out-of-network reimbursement claim with your plan. Depending on your specific plan and benefits, you may be eligible for out-of-network reimbursement, and psychological services are health services, so out-of-network treatment costs generally apply toward the same deductible under most plans.

Does Lukin Center take my insurance?

Is therapy confidential if I’m living with my parents?

Yes. If you are 18 or older, your sessions and records are confidential regardless of who you live with or who pays. Information is shared with family only with your written consent, apart from the narrow safety exceptions your clinician will explain at intake.

Do you offer teletherapy?

Yes. Virtual sessions follow the same matching process as in-person care and are available across New Jersey. Some services and evaluations are conducted in person, and we will tell you which apply to your plan.

Can I see a therapist and a psychiatrist at Lukin Center?

Yes. Our psychiatric team works in house and coordinates directly with your therapist when medication may be appropriate. Whether medication makes sense for you is a clinical decision reached together, not an assumption.

What if my clinician isn’t the right fit?

Tell us. Changing clinicians is handled directly and confidentially, and it does not mean starting over. Fit is central to how we work, so a mismatch is information we want rather than a problem to manage quietly.

How long will I be in therapy?

That depends on what you are working on, which approach you and your clinician choose, and the goals you set together. Some young adults come for focused, shorter-term work, and others stay longer. Your clinician will review progress with you and adjust the plan as you go.
