Deepa Bhushanam, MA, LAC, NCC

Psychotherapist

Deepa Bhushanam is a Licensed Associate Counselor who works with children, young adults, adults, and couples.

Deepa specializes in working with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, and interpersonal challenges. She is passionate about listening carefully to clients’ past experiences, sociocultural backgrounds, and behavioral patterns, gently highlighting the connections between past experiences and present behavior while providing practical tools for lasting change.

Deepa draws from a range of therapeutic approaches to meet clients where they are and address their specific needs. Her work blends psychodynamic therapy, helping clients understand how the past shapes the present, with solution-focused methods and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) techniques that support clients in managing the stressors of day to day life. Furthermore, Deepa applies this integrative approach across her work with teenagers, adults, and couples.

In her work with children, Deepa uses play therapy and creative expression techniques to help young clients express feelings that are difficult to put into words, while also teaching strategies for emotional regulation and awareness.

Deepa has clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and crises. She has also supported clients in community settings with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, as well as children with mental health diagnoses in their own homes. These experiences have shaped her systems-oriented perspective on how family dynamics, social circumstances, and cultural background influences the individual’s overall well-being. She is trained in play therapy and continues to build her clinical skills through ongoing training.

Deepa holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The College of New Jersey, and a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and Marketing. She is dedicated to creating a warm, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to build meaningful, lasting change.
