The Lukin Center Training Institute (LCTI) provides comprehensive clinical training across four distinct levels, supporting Master’s-level clinicians (LAC/LSW) and psychology students at all doctoral stages (Extern, Intern, and Post-Doc).

Training Paths

01.
Post-Doctoral Fellowship

The LCTI Post-Doctoral program welcomes graduates of PhD or PsyD programs in clinical or counseling psychology. Because we recognize that every Fellow enters with a different number of pre-approved hours, our Assistant Director of Clinical Training meets with you individually to tailor your supervision goals and training needs.

We are looking for applicants who want to do more than just "clock hours"—we seek Fellows who are eager to master the nuances of private practice.

Program Highlights:

Rolling Admissions: Apply year-round and start when it suits your timeline.
Personalized Pace: We do not require hours to be completed within a single year; trainees are encouraged to manage their hours within the standard 3-year NJ permit window.
Qualified Mentorship: All LCTI psychology supervisors have been licensed for at least two years, meeting all NJ state supervision requirements.

02.
Psychology Internships

LCTI offers a pre-doctoral internship for doctoral students looking to refine their clinical expertise while gaining firsthand experience in a high-volume private practice.

Program Highlights:

Acreditation Path: The program is currently designed to align with APPIC and APA standards, with a formal goal of achieving APPIC accreditation by the 2027-2028 academic year.
Supervision: Each intern is mentored by two psychologists (each licensed 2+ years in NJ) to provide diverse clinical perspectives.
Flexibility: We offer rolling applications and flexible timelines. We can accommodate part-time placements (pending academic program approval) and allow interns to select their preferred schedule and patient populations.
Completion: Similar to APA-accredited sites, the internship is completed upon reaching 2,000 hours.

03.
Psychology Externship

LCTI provides a practical, intensive externship for advanced doctoral students (Year 3+) looking to broaden their clinical skills. This program adheres to the NY/NJ Match guidelines; applicants should consult their Director of Clinical Training to ensure compliance.

What Makes Our Externship Unique?

Clinical Breadth: Externs work with diverse populations—for example, balancing a young adult caseload with couples therapy—to help generalize their skills or identify a future specialty.
Mentorship: Through Dr. Lukin’s “Cultivating Success” meetings, externs engage in discussions around clinical work and learn what it’s like to be part of a collaborative group practice.
Paid Experience: In alignment with our private practice model, this is a paid externship, valuing your contribution to the center.
Continuity: We encourage externs to remain with LCTI as they transition into internship and post-doctoral roles.

Masters Level Provisional LAC Licensee

The LCTI training programs geared towards terminal licensure of the LPC are in alignment with New Jersey State board requirements. Any LAC who wishes to become terminally licensed in another state should provide the LCTI with that state’s requirements to ensure these are met without issue.

Program Details:

Availability: Applications for these positions are on a rolling basis, meaning the LAC can apply to LC at any point in the year as this is more of an employed position rather than a training experience with a start and end date.
Completion: Typically in NJ, the LAC needs 4,500 hours to be completed within 3 calendar years, one of which is usually done within their masters degree requirements in order to become an LPC.
Hours: Fifty hours of face-to-face supervision needs to be done per calendar year.

05.
Masters Level Provisional LSW Licensee

The LCTI training programs geared towards terminal licensure of the LCSW are in alignment with New Jersey State board requirements. Any LSW who wishes to become terminally licensed in another state should provide the LCTI with that state’s requirements to ensure these are met without issue.

Program Details:

Availability: Applications for these positions are on a rolling basis, meaning the LSW can apply to LC at any point in the year as this is more of an employed position rather than a training experience with a start and end date.
Completion: For LSWs, NJ requires 3,000 clinical hours to be completed in no fewer than 2 years and no more than 4 consecutive years.
Hours: Supervision must occur weekly for one hour per week.

How It Works

Our program pairs each trainee with a supervisor specifically selected to match their preferred patient population and theoretical orientation. Every LCTI supervisor is board-approved and possesses specialized expertise in the supervision of graduate and post-graduate students. We work closely with licensure boards to ensure our trainees follow the most efficient path to licensure possible. While most of our trainees seek licensure in New Jersey or New York, we offer dedicated support for those coordinating licensure in any state.
