Predoctoral Extern

Julia McCachren is a Predoctoral Extern in Counseling Psychology specializing in / focused on women’s health, trauma, and eating disorders.

Julia McCachren specializes in working with individuals navigating trauma, emotional overwhelm, and identity development across the lifespan. She brings a warm, empowering presence rooted in feminist and person-centered approaches, helping clients build resilience and self-trust. With advanced training in Internal Family Systems, the Nurtured Heart Approach, and evidence-based trauma-informed care, Julia is especially attuned to the needs of clients seeking depth, clarity, and healing in the face of complex life experiences.

Julia McCachren supports clients by fostering a sense of empowerment, helping them build self-confidence and recognize their own strengths. She believes therapy should be a collaborative process where clients feel in control of their journey. She emphasizes emotional wellbeing, especially when navigating life’s challenges, and works to help clients reframe difficult experiences in ways that promote healing and growth. Drawing from feminist and person-centered approaches, she creates a supportive space where clients can develop resilience, assertiveness, and a deeper connection to their values.

Clinical experience + specialized training

Julia McCachren has clinical experience working with individuals across the lifespan, from early childhood to older adulthood, and has supported clients with a range of presenting concerns including crisis intervention, developmental and learning disabilities, and sexual trauma. Her approach is informed by ongoing specialized training in evidence-based and trauma-informed care. She has completed training in the Nurtured Heart Approach and Internal Family Systems (IFS), and holds certifications in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention and Basic Life Support (CPR/AED). She has also engaged in professional development focused on mandated reporting, parental alienation, and social justice in mental health. She is currently pursuing advanced training in evidence-based treatment for eating disorders and couples therapy.

Traditional education

Julia McCachren holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Criminal Justice, from Rutgers Newark in 2020. She went on to earn a master’s degree in counseling psychology in 2023 and is anticipating graduation in 2027 with a Counseling Psychology Psy.D. from Saint Elizabeth University.
