Aleksandra Goncharova, Ph.D., LPC Licensed Psychologist Dr. Aleksandra Goncharova is a licensed clinical psychologist and counselor. She works with college students, young adults, and clients experiencing relationship difficulties, caregiving burden, grief and loss, complex trauma, and lack of direction. She views psychotherapy as a collaborative process and supports her clients in harnessing their personal agency, autonomy, and innate sources of resilience to improve their emotional well-being. Dr. Goncharova has deep experience working with teens and adults in a wide range of individual and group clinical settings, including hospital inpatient and outpatient programs, private practice, and university counseling centers. She enjoys incorporating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) principles into her work with clients, helping them change their relationship with their thoughts and orienting them to a more curious, open, and accepting stance towards their inner world. With less time wasted on struggling to control thoughts and feelings, Dr. Goncharova’s clients reclaim emotional resources they can use to pursue personal goals and values. She considers treatment to be truly successful when clients not only feel relief from their symptoms, but also begin to find their lives and relationships more satisfying and meaningful. In addition to working one-on-one with clients, Dr. Goncharova enjoys couples and family work. She helps clients and their significant others and family members deepen their intimacy and mutual understanding, reducing relationship distress. Dr. Goncharova regards meaningful, enlivening relationships with others as being fundamental to personal happiness, growth, and healing. Dr. Goncharova has completed extensive training in psychological assessment and diagnosis, as well as empirically-based integrative treatment incorporating psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral approaches. She is a graduate of Adelphi University, where she earned a doctorate in Clinical Psychology and a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling. She is currently in the process of completing advanced training and certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a leading, evidence-based approach to couples’ treatment.
